Wayne's Weekly Email #50
2009-05-15 16:49 Dear FUMC Family,
Well, last night we wrapped up our Wednesday Nights @ FUMC for the summer with a fantastic Church-wide picnic. The weather was perfect, we had a great crowd, and everyone seemed to have a lot of fun. I want to specifically thank Buddy and Diane Butler and Tim and Tish Lochridge for running our kitchen and organizing our meals each week. They have graciously offered to love God with their hands…..and because of that have made our Wednesday Nights @ FUMC possible. I hope you will thank them when you see them around church! I have several important items to bring to your attention today. Here is what I will cover in today’s email: 1. This Sunday @ FUMC 2. 3 FUMC Youth Receive Eagle Scout Award This Sunday @ 2 p.m. 3. Rebecca Woodard to offer Recital at FUMC May 24 at 4:15 p.m. 4. Cookies and Servers Needed for Growing Tree Graduation 5/28 5. Volunteers Still Need for VBS….Sign-up Online 1. This Sunday @ FUMC This Sunday @ FUMC we will look at the beautiful parable of the Vine and the Branches. In that parable Jesus says, “I am the vine and you are the branches….bear fruit.” Too often we think it is enough to simply claim a commitment to Christ. However, a true, deeply committed faith always bears fruit…..it is always active and growing. Join us this Sunday as we see how important it is to remain connected to Christ…..and we learn about some of the ways we bear fruit and stay spiritually healthy! This Sunday is also the last Sunday Veronica Schultz will be with us before joining Mt. T.O.P. staff for the summer. I want to thank you for your financial support of Veronica. She was required to raise $2,000 for her room and board for the summer….and with your help she has reached that goal. There is also a sign-up sheet outside the Louise Henry Sunday school class for you to sign-up to pray for Veronica throughout the summer. Please go by this Sunday and sign-up if you have not already done so. One of Veronica’s many gifts is her beautiful voice. This Sunday she will offer an anthem in both the 8:15 and 10:30 worship service. Plan to be with us….I know you will be blessed. 2. 3 FUMC Youth to Receive Eagle Scout Award This Sunday @ 2 p.m. This Sunday, at 2 p.m. in our Sanctuary, you are invited to an Eagle Scout Court of Honor where three of our youth, Mac Edmondson, Garrett Rackley, and Douglas Wong will receive their Eagle Scout Awards. The Eagle Scout Award is the highest rank a Boy Scout can receive…..and it is quite unique for our church to have three young men receiving this prestigious award at the same time. I hope you will plan to attend the Court of Honor Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., or, at the very least, congratulate these young men on this great honor and let them know how proud we are of them at FUMC. 3. Rebecca Woodard to offer Recital at FUMC May 24 at 4:15 p.m. On May 24, at 4 p.m., our very own Rebecca Woodard will be offering her flute recital in our sanctuary. Rebecca is tremendously talented and you, no doubt, have been blessed by her willingness to share this talent with us in worship. Her recital is open to all of you and I encourage you to attend. This will not only be a chance for you to enjoy Rebecca’s beautiful music, but also an opportunity to thank her for the many times she has willingly shared her gifts with us at both 8:15 and 10:30 worship (and many times both services on the same day!). I hope you will plan to be with us at 4:15 on May 24 in the sanctuary as we support Rebecca and enjoy her beautiful music. 4. Cookies and Volunteers Needed for Growing Tree Graduation May 28 One of Tiffany Hagood’s first goals as our new Director of Children’s Ministry is to build a bridge between the Growing Tree Nursery School and our congregation. We feel like it is vital for us to view the nursery school as a ministry of FUMC and for us to share with them the love of this congregation. In an initial effort to reach out to the children of the Growing Tree and their families, Tiffany has decided we will sponsor their annual graduation ceremonies on May 28. During this time each class will be introduced and share a song or something they learned during the year. Then, following their presentation, each class and their parents are invited to the fellowship hall for cookies, punch and time of fellowship. This is one of the biggest events we host during the year….and it will be standing room only! Tiffany is asking for cookies and volunteers from our congregation to help provide the refreshments after the program. Again, this will take place on May 28, and if you are willing to provide cookies or help serve, would you please email Tiffany at tiffany@fumcpulaski.com 5. Don’t Forget to Volunteer to Help with VBS Don’t forget, VBS is schedule for June 2-5 and we still need volunteers. We anticipate a huge crowd throughout the week and we want to be sure we have plenty of help. If you are willing to volunteer on one or all of these nights please visit our website at www.fumcpulaski.com and click on the link on the front page. There you will be able to register to help. That is about it for this week. We have an exciting worship service planned for you Sunday….and an exciting summer planned for you @ FUMC! Be sure to stay active and grow in your faith! See you on Sunday, Wayne
