Wayne's Weekly Email #51
2009-05-21 15:53 Dear FUMC Family,
I have just a few quick items to bring to your attention today so I will get right to it. Here is what I will cover in today’s email. 1. This Sunday @ FUMC Has someone ever promised you something that seemed outlandish….too good to be true…..just too difficult to believe? The early disciples were just getting use to having Jesus back in their lives after the crucifixion. Although it wasn’t the same as before…..still, he would appear to them from time to time to offer them encouragement and hope. Then, suddenly, he calls them together one last time to tell them He is leaving….for good…..that he is ascending into heaven to be with the Father. In an effort to comfort and offer some encouragement to the disciples in the midst of their despair Jesus made them a promise. He promised he would not leave them alone, but instead would give them the Spirit and in that they would find all the comfort and strength they would ever need. This promise, of course, is ours as well. Jesus promised us the encouragement and comfort of the Spirit too……but in order to receive it we have to believe….we must to trust. Plan to be with us this Sunday as we look at the story of the ascension, the promise of Jesus’ presence….and discover the great sense of power we can find in pursuing this promise. Both the 8:15 and 10:30 worship services are in for a real treat. This Sunday Daniel Wood (son of Rev. Cheryl Wood) will offer us some special music. Daniel has been with us several times before and I don’t need to tell you how talented he is. I know you will be blessed by the phenomenal music he will offer us this Sunday. At our 10:30 worship service we will celebrate two baptisms and welcome a wonderful new family as the newest members of FUMC. Tyler and Taunia Green have three girls: Kayla (8), Courtney (6), and Taylor (10 months) and Sunday they will officially make FUMC their church home. Another exciting aspect of this is the fact that Tyler and his daughter Taylor will be baptized together. I know you will want to be here to welcome the Green’s to FUMC. 2. Help Still Needed for Growing Tree Graduation Next Thursday Tiffany has had a good response to her request for cookies and volunteers to serve at the Growing Tree Graduation next Thursday….but we still need a few more folks. If you are willing to help out please email her at tiffany@fumcpulaski.com We want to make sure all the Growing Tree children and their parents know how much we care about them. 3. Annual Conference Opportunities June 14-16 United Methodist from around Middle Tennessee will gather at Brentwood United Methodist Church for the 2009 Session of the Tennessee Annual Conference. Each evening there will be worship services open to anyone interested….and this year there are a couple of opportunities for those interested to participate. I want to specifically share a couple of these invitations with you. Below is the article containing the invitation. Dancers Invited to Participate in Annual Conference Worship Greetings to the churches of the TN Annual Conference! Your Liturgical Dance Ministry is invited to participate in the 4:00 p.m. worship service which opens the 42nd Session of the Tennessee Annual Conference on Sunday, June 14, 2009. We will come together as one group to celebrate and minister through dance. Two rehearsals will be scheduled for the afternoons of Saturday, June 6th, and Saturday, June 13th, at Brentwood United Methodist Church. The exact times are to be determined and will be communicated to each church as they respond. Since we will only have these two times together in order to learn our dance, it is important that your dancers attend both rehearsals. We want everyone to come out and dance before the Lord! All ages are invited to participate. In your response, please include: 1) the number of participants and 2) the age groups (i.e. children, teens, adults). We are hoping to have a wonderfully diverse group of dancers. Please respond no later than Thursday, May 28, 2009. Youth Invited to Participate in Choir for Annual Conference Worship In keeping with the 2009 TN Annual Conference Theme of "Passionate Worship," we are asking our Youth throughout the conference to come out and participate in an exciting and diverse Youth Mass Choir for the evening Worship Service on Sunday, June 14, 2009, 7:00 p.m. at Brentwood United Methodist Church in Nashville, Tennessee. This music ministry will be directed by the dynamic duo of Millard Hayes from Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church, and James Wells of Brentwood United Methodist Church. If your church has a Youth Choir, or just young people who want to be a part of this worship experience, contact us no later than Thursday, May 28, 2009. Please provide the approximate number of participants and a contact name, number, and email address for your church. Once we have this information, we will send you the two (2) songs that will be performed on that Sunday. We ask that your young people listen to these songs and get them in their spirit so that on Sunday, June 14th at 3:00 p.m., we can gather at Brentwood for a mass choir rehearsal. Dinner will be provided prior to the worship service on Sunday evening. Please send your information to owensd@bellsouth.net, or call with questions at 615-868-6223. More information to follow once you respond. That is about it for this week. Don’t forget Vacation Bible School is June 2-5 and you can still register online at our web site, www.fumcpulaski.com See you Sunday, Wayne
