Wayne's Weekly Email #52

2009-05-28 16:09

 Dear FUMC Family,

I hope this email finds you well…..especially our teachers and students who are wrapping up the school year.  Summer is here and I want to encourage you to remain active at FUMC.  We have several wonderful ministries plan specifically for the summer……including a really neat sermon series planned for July…..and we want you to be active.  I encourage you to be in worship each week unless you are sick or out-of-town.  And if you are out-of-town remember you can listen to the sermon and download the weekly study guide on our website, www.fumcpulaski.com , so you can continue to grow in your faith.  Whatever your plans are for the summer though…..I hope you will make FUMC a part of your life because we are always better when you are here.

I have just a few things I want to touch on today.  Here is what I will cover in this week’s email:

  1. This Sunday @ FUMC
  2. Love God With Your Heart and Hands….Volunteer to Serve Home Communion June 7
  3. VBS Next Week!
  4. As Requested………the FUMC Flames T-Ball Schedule

1.  This Sunday @ FUMC

Have you ever received a strange gift….one you weren’t sure what to do with or how you would put to use……only to discover later that it was the greatest gift you ever received? Well, he disciples received a gift…..that is what the book of Acts tells us.  And with that gift came change they could have never predicted.  This gift, of course, was the gift of the Holy Spirit….the gift of God’s presence with them and within them.  This Spirit went to work in their lives and it changed everything.  Suddenly they found the courage to be bold with the gospel, they found the strength to persevere, they discovered the call and the power to be who God wanted them to be.  And so can we…..

This Sunday at FUMC we will celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and discover what this gift can bring to our lives.  Join us as we encounter the Spirit of the Living God and watch as everything changes!

2.  Love God With Your Heart and Hands…..Volunteer to Serve Home Communion June 7

On the first Sunday of every month we offer the sacrament of Holy Communion in our worship service (we offer it each Sunday during the 815 service).  The sacrament is not only a reminder of what God has and will do for us, but it is also moment when we can encounter Christ.  It is a moment when we receive the grace and love of Jesus.

Did you know one we also offer the sacrament to our shut-in’s and those in our healthcare facilities the first Sunday of each month?   Home Communion is one of our most important ministries……and it is also one of the best opportunities for you to love God with your heart and hands.   Serving Home Communion doesn’t require a special skill…..just a willing heart.  Volunteers will serve Home Communion to 3-6 people and it usually takes 30 minutes to an hour……and it tends to be those most fulfilling time of the week.

I want to encourage you to sign-up to serve Home Communion.  All you have to do is email Cheryl Wood at Cheryl@fumcpulaski.com and she will be happy to put you on the list and explain what is involved.  I hope you will take this opportunity to be in ministry at FUMC.

3.  VBS Next Week!

Don’t forget, next week is VBS Week.  We will gather for supper at 5:30 in the fellowship hall and then our VBS Classes will meet from 6-8 p.m.   We want to say “thank you” to all of you who have volunteered or supported this ministry in some way.  We expect a big crowd and a great time.  If you aren’t involved….still plan to stop by and just take in the experience!

4.  As Requested…..The FUMC Flames TBall Schedule

A couple of Sunday’s ago in worship I showed you a picture of the TBall team our church is sponsoring.  Since then many of you have requested a schedule so you can come and see the team live and in person.   Below is the schedule of our remaining games.

Saturday, May 30…………9:00 a.m., Field 1

Saturday, June 6…………..10:00 a.m., Field 2

Saturday, June 13………..9:00 a.m., Field 2

We play at Exchange Park and the field we will play on is listed beside the time.  I hope you will come out and see the boys…..and if so, wear your FUMC Shirt and show your support.   While you are there take a look at the signs we have on the outfield walls advertising our church.

That is about it for this week.  Again, I want to encourage you to stay active this summer.  FUMC is an exciting place to live out and grow in your faith…..so be sure to participate in the many exciting ministries we are offering.

See you in worship on Sunday,

Wayne
