Wayne's Weekly Email #53
2009-06-19 23:55Dear FUMC Family,
Doris and her sister Amelia have been a part of this congregation for many years and are very special to all of you who know them. Our visit today reminded me of just how important church family can be to our lives. It is in our times of greatest need that we reach out to those who share the faith with us…..because we know it is there that we find the peace, hope, and strength of Christ. I am thankful for Doris and her family…..and I am also thankful for you. I hope you will pause and pray for Doris right now. Ask God to offer her the comfort she seeks in this time of need, and offer thanks for the community of faith that sustains us all. I have several important things to share with you in today’s email. Here is what I will cover: 1. This Sunday @ FUMC One of the greatest temptations we face in life is being moved by, controlled by our fears. Whether your fear is of financial instability, health concerns, family issues, or just life in general……we all have fears and all of us, if we are not careful, are controlled by our fears. Without even realizing it, we spend everyday making decision after decision all aimed at controlling that which brings fear to our lives. Yet, in the end only one thing can control our fears. Only one thing can protect us…..and that is Christ Jesus our Lord. This Sunday @ FUMC we will spend some time looking at the fears which plague us and contemplate how we might loosen the grip fear has on our lives….and allow Christ Jesus to take hold of us. Plan to be with us for this important sermon. Home Communion: We will be serving home communion again on Sunday, July 5 and we need volunteers. There is a sign-up sheet outside Cheryl Wood’s office (you can pick which group you will serve) or you can email her at Cheryl@fumcpulaski.com and let her know you are interested in serving. 2. Youth Leave for Mt. T.O.P. Sunday @ 5:30 a.m. Our youth will leave Sunday morning at 5:30 a.m. for their summer mission trip to Mt. T.O.P. I want to thank all of you who have written notes to our participants. If you are still planning to do so, please drop them off in the church office by lunch tomorrow if you would like Whitney to take them and hand them out at Mt. T.O.P. I want to encourage you to remember this group in your prayers next week. Remember they are not only representing us…..but they are also using their heart and hands to love God….and when we do that amazing things often happen. 3. Wittle Wednesday Update Yesterday Tiffany Hagood hosted our second “Wittle Wednesday” and it was another successful day. She wrote an email earlier about it and I want to share it with you. Also, please notice at the bottom of her email that she has the specifics about next week’s gathering. Please be sure to make plans to be with us. If you don’t have children attending, plan to come and volunteer. I think you will find it to be a real blessing. Here is Tiffany’s email: Yesterday, we (myself, Whitney, and my WONDERFUL parents and helpers) took our Wittle Wednesday Group to BridgeStreet Town Centre in Huntsville. The kids really enjoyed playing in the fountains, riding (and driving...YIKES) the paddle boats, and riding the carousal. We had such a great time! I just want to take a moment to say a huge thanks to everybody who helps with this program. There are several parents and helpers (that I couldn't do this without!) that give their time, those who give monetarily to make this happen, and others who support us in great ways. We appreciate all of you and your efforts SO much. Next week we will be meeting in the FS Hall at 10AM. Please note the change!...10AM. Pick up time is Noon. See you then! 4. New Sermon Series begins June 28…..Are you Planning to Be Here? On Sunday, June 28, we will kick off a new sermon series and I am really exited about it. In it we will look at the concept of using your head, heart, and hands in becoming Deeply Committed Christians. We will look at different scriptures that encourage us to give our entire being to Christ, and then we will highlight some of the exciting ministries we are offering here at FUMC to help you live out this call. Here is the schedule for the series: June 28 “Seeking to Love God with Our Heads: Nurturing Your Faith at FUMC” July 5 “Seeking to Love God with Our Hearts: Compassion Ministries at FUMC” July 12 “Seeking to Love God with Our Hands: Mission Ministries at FUMC” On this particular Sunday we will celebrate our Mt. T.O.P. Mission Team July 19 “Loving God with Your Head, Heart, and Hands: Becoming a Deeply Committed Christian at FUMC” 5. FUMC Logo Shirts Available Again! Back by popular demand are our FUMC Logo Shirts. If you are interested in ordering a shirt, jacket, sweatshirt, etc. with the FUMC Logo on it email Mary White at msmarketing@bellsouth.net and she will show you what is available. This is a great way to raise awareness about our congregation within the community! That is about it for this week. As you can see there are a lot of exciting things happening at FUMC. However, nothing is more important to our faith than worship. I realize it is summer and many of us are on summer vacation…. and I think that is wonderful. It is so important to spend time with your family and make wonderful memories together. It is also very important, however, to worship together as a family. I encourage you to be in worship each Sunday unless you are sick or out-of-town. Make growing in your faith an important part of your summer…..and do it right here at FUMC! See you on Sunday, Wayne
