Dear FUMC Family,

I hope this email finds you well.  I have several important things to share with you this morning including some news about a new sermon series and the results of the Hunter Smith auction that took place earlier this morning.  Here is what I will cover in today’s email:

  1. This Sunday @ FUMC
  2. Results of Hunter Smith Auction
  3. Promotion Sunday
  4. FUMC to Host Laity Club August 11
  5. Wednesday Nights @ FUMC Resume August 12

1.  This Sunday @ FUMC

This Sunday @ FUMC we will begin a new sermon series, “Made Alive in Christ.”  In this series we are going to explore what the presence of Christ can offer to our lives.  We begin this Sunday by looking at one of the most crippling spiritual diseases we face……the feeling of worthlessness.   We spend most of our time and energy trying to prove our value to those around us.  We seek to perform better, attain more, and impress everyone.  Still, when we lay down at night that voice deep within our soul begins to speak once again.  It is the voice of self-doubt…..the voice that reminds us of our faults and weaknesses, of the mistakes we have made, and causes us to ask the question, “How could anyone love me?”  This Sunday @ FUMC we are going to uncover the remedy to this crippling disease…..and learn how we can begin to live with a sense of value and self-confidence once again.

Plan to be with us this Sunday in worship!

2.  Results of Hunter Smith Auction

This morning our trustees under the leadership of Charles Jenkins attended the auction of the Hunter Smith Building.  I am pleased to announce that we were the winning bid at $50,000.00   We will pay cash for the building (out of the money we collected from the sale of the parsonage) and we will begin our work on studying the uses, design and cost of renovating the building.

I appreciate your prayers, patience, and attitudes during this process.  Conversations such as these are always difficult for churches to have….but you proved to be a strong, vibrant church in how you handled yourself.  These are exciting times for FUMC!

3.  Promotion Sunday

4.  FUMC to Host Laity Club August 11

On Tuesday, August 11, FUMC will host the Giles County Laity Club.  This is a monthly gathering of United Methodist throughout Giles County.  We are asked to provide a meal and a program for the laity club on this particular evening.  Our program will be about Matthew’s Thrift Shop Ministry…….and we are hoping you will help us with our meal.

We are working on the details of the meal…..but we need you to mark your calendar and plan to help us host the Laity Club and serve the meal.   The church will provide the meat….but we will need several dishes from each of you.  More importantly, we need your presence here.  This is a fantastic opportunity for us to show Giles County that FUMC is a vibrant, growing church.   So, mark your calendars and plan to be with us on August 11.   We will be providing more details in the coming weeks…..

5. Wednesday Nights @ FUMC Resume August 12

Wednesday Nights @ FUMC are scheduled to start back on Wednesday, August 12…..and we couldn’t be more excited.  We have some great studies planned for you this fall……and of course our children’s programs are ready to kick-off an exciting year with record numbers.   You can log on to our website, www.fumcpulaski.com and check out all of our studies and programs….then fill out a simple form and your signed-up.

If you have questions you can email Whitney at whitney@fumcpulaski.com  , but plan to check out the website and see what all we are offering.  Remember, dinner is from 5:00-5:50 p.m. and our studies are from 6:00-7:00 p.m.  Also, if you have been considering joining our chancel choir…..this is a great time to do it.  They meet each Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the choir room.

Well, that is about it for this week.  As you can see we have some great ministries planned for you in August.  Help us kick-off the school year by joining us for worship this Sunday either at 8:15 or 10:30!

See you Sunday,

Wayne
